Seated Cat-Cow
Adaptation of the cat-cow movement for patients who cannot get into a quadruped position (frequent in rheumatoid arthritis). Preserves segmental mobility of the spine.
How to perform
- Starting position. Sit upright in a chair with your hands resting on your knees.
- Step 2. Inhale while arching your spine forward, looking upward (cow).
- Step 3. Exhale while rounding your back, tucking your chin to your chest (cat).
- Return. Move slowly and fluidly with the rhythm of your breath.
When not to perform
- Acute pain with flexion or extension
