Location (classical)
In the lumbar region, 1.5 cun lateral to the inferior border of the spinous process of the third lumbar vertebra (L3).
How to find it (practical)
In ventral or lateral decubitus, locate the point below the spinous process of the third lumbar vertebra, 1.5 cun lateral to the posterior midline, at the level of Qi Hai (CV-6).
Anatomy
Thoracolumbar fascia, erector spinae, and quadratus lumborum muscles.
Needling
Perpendicular or oblique insertion toward the spine, 0.8–1.2 cun.
Etymology
Qi Hai (气海), Sea of Qi; Shu (俞), point. This point, on the side opposite Qi Hai (CV-6), is the place where the primordial Qi reaches the back.
