Location (classical)
On the back, 3 cun lateral to the inferior border of the spinous process of the twelfth thoracic vertebra (T12), at the level of BL-21 (Stomach Shu point).
How to find it (practical)
In ventral decubitus, locate the point below the spinous process of the twelfth thoracic vertebra, 3 cun lateral to the posterior midline.
Anatomy
Latissimus dorsi and iliocostalis lumborum muscles.
Needling
Oblique insertion toward the spine, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Wei (胃), stomach; Gang (仓), granary. The point lies at the level of Wei Shu (BL-21). The stomach receives food, functioning as a granary.
