Precautions
CONTRAINDICATED IN PREGNANCY (unless one is actively attempting to turn a baby in breech presentation or to induce labor).
Location (classical)
On the dorsal aspect of the small toe, 0.1 cun from the lateral (fibular) corner of the nail.
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the foot supported or in dorsal decubitus, locate the point at the intersection of the line passing along the lateral margin and the line passing along the base of the nail of the fifth toe.
Anatomy
Nail bed. Innervated by the proper plantar digital nerve and the lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular or oblique insertion directed proximally, 0.1–0.2 cun. Moxibustion is commonly used here.
Etymology
Zhi (至), to reach; Yin (阴), the Yin of Yin Yang. Yin in this case refers to the Kidney Meridian, Foot Shao Yin. Zhi Yin (BL-67) is the last point of the Bladder Meridian, Foot Tai Yang, the site where it reaches the Kidney Meridian, Foot Shao Yin.
