Precautions
HIGH RISK OF PNEUMOTHORAX. Do not needle deeply, especially in thin patients. The apex of the lung lies directly beneath this region. CONTRAINDICATED IN PREGNANCY (strongly promotes labor/downward movement).
Location (classical)
On the shoulder, directly above the nipple, at the midpoint of the line connecting the spinous process of C7 (GV-14) and the lateral end of the acromion.
How to find it (practical)
Seated, locate the point at the midpoint of the line connecting the highest part of the spinous process of the seventh cervical vertebra and the acromial extremity of the clavicle.
Anatomy
Upper trapezius, levator scapulae, supraspinatus. Innervated by the accessory nerve and the supraclavicular nerve. Transverse cervical artery.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.5–0.8 cun.
Etymology
Jian (肩), shoulder; Jing (井), well. The point is located on the shoulder, in the depression of the trapezius muscle.
