Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect of the thigh, 7 cun superior to the transverse popliteal crease. With the patient standing and the hands relaxed at the sides of the body, the point lies where the tip of the middle finger touches.
How to find it (practical)
1. With the patient standing and both arms relaxed at the sides of the body, locate the point where the tip of the patient’s middle finger touches the leg.
2. In lateral decubitus, locate the point 7 cun above the popliteal fossa, on the lateral midline of the femur.
Anatomy
Iliotibial tract (ITT), vastus lateralis muscle. Innervated by the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve and branches of the femoral nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 1.0–2.0 cun.
Etymology
Feng (风), pathogenic wind; Shi (市), market. An important point for removing pathogenic wind.
