CRITICAL HIGH RISK. Deep insertion or superior angulation will perforate the cisterna magna and medulla oblongata, resulting in severe neurological injury or death.
Location (classical)
At the nape of the neck, on the posterior midline, 1 cun directly above the posterior hairline, in the depression immediately below the external occipital protuberance.
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the neck slightly flexed, locate the point 1 cun above the hairline, on the posterior midline, in the depression immediately below the external occipital protuberance.
Anatomy
Nuchal ligament, between the trapezius muscles. The cisterna magna and medulla oblongata lie deep to this point.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, directed strictly toward the patient's lower jaw, 0.5–0.8 cun.
Etymology
Feng (風), pathogenic wind; Fu (府), place. A point for eliminating pathogenic wind.
