Location (classical)
On the posterior part of the head, on the posterior midline, 1.5 cun directly superior to GV-17 (at the midpoint between GV-16 and GV-20).
How to find it (practical)
Seated or in prone decubitus, locate the point 1.5 cun, immediately above the upper margin of the external occipital protuberance, on the posterior midline.
Anatomy
Epicranial aponeurosis. Innervated by the greater occipital nerve.
Needling
Transverse (subcutaneous) insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Qiang (強), stiffness; Jian (間), middle. The point is located between the parietal and occipital bones. Indicated to treat headache and cervical stiffness.
