Deep insertion may reach the spinal canal.
Location (classical)
In the mid-back region, on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the eleventh thoracic vertebra (T11). At the same level as BL-20 (Spleen Shu).
How to find it (practical)
In prone decubitus or seated upright, locate the point in the depression between the spinous processes of the eleventh and twelfth thoracic vertebrae.
Anatomy
Supraspinous and interspinous ligaments.
Needling
Oblique insertion directed superiorly, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Ji (脊), spine; Zhong (中), middle. The point is located at the midpoint between the thoracic spine and the sacrum.
