Precautions
Avoid the radial collateral artery.
Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect of the upper arm, 3 cun proximal to LI-11, on the line connecting LI-11 and LI-15.
How to find it (practical)
With the elbow flexed, locate the point 3 cun directly above Qu Chi (LI-11), on the lateral aspect of the triceps brachii tendon.
Anatomy
Lateral border of the brachialis and triceps brachii muscles. Innervated by the posterior cutaneous nerve of the arm and the radial nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Shou (手), arm; Wu (五), five; Li (里), considered as cun in ancient times. The point lies on the lower portion of the upper arm, 5 cun below Tian Fu (LU-3).
