Ankle Alphabet

MobilizeBeginner

Multi-directional active ankle mobilization by tracing letters in the air with the foot. Restores full range of motion after a sprain in an engaging, comprehensive way — each letter requires a different combination of joint motions.

How to perform

  1. Starting position. Sit in a chair with the affected foot lifted off the floor.
  2. Step 2. Trace each letter of the alphabet in the air using only the ankle (without moving the whole leg).
  3. Step 3. Make the letters large and controlled, covering the full range of motion.
  4. Return. Complete A to Z. If you feel fatigue, pause and resume at the next letter.

When not to perform

  • Non-consolidated ankle fracture
  • Intense pain that worsens with movement
