Cross-Body Shoulder Stretch
Stretch of the posterior shoulder capsule and external rotators in a functional position. Complements the sleeper stretch to correct the internal-rotation deficit (GIRD) common in rotator-cuff tendinopathy.
How to perform
- Starting position. Standing or sitting, bring the affected arm horizontally across the front of the chest.
- Step 2. With the opposite hand, pull the arm toward the contralateral shoulder.
- Step 3. Keep the shoulder relaxed and the elbow straight or slightly bent.

When not to perform

Codman Pendulum Exercise
Passive shoulder mobilization through gravity, without active muscle contraction. The first exercise prescribed for acute shoulder pain, adhesive capsulitis, and post-operative care — allows joint movement without rotator-cuff loading.

Banded External Rotation
A functional variant of external rotation, performed standing with elastic resistance. Excellent for progression and maintenance in chronic rotator-cuff tendinopathy.

Side-Lying Shoulder External Rotation
Isolated strengthening of the infraspinatus and teres minor. Central to rehabilitation of rotator-cuff tendinopathy when external rotation strength is deficient.
