Location (classical)
On the sacrum, 1.5 cun lateral to the posterior midline, at the level of the first posterior sacral foramen.
How to find it (practical)
In ventral or lateral decubitus, locate the point below the first sacral vertebra, 1.5 cun lateral to the posterior midline.
Anatomy
Gluteus maximus muscle and tendon of the erector spinae. Innervated by the dorsal branches of the S1 and S2 sacral nerves.
Needling
Perpendicular or slightly oblique insertion, 0.8–1.2 cun.
Etymology
Xiao Shang (小肠), Small Intestine; Shu (俞), point. Place where the Qi of the Xiao Chang (Small Intestine) reaches the back.
