Precautions
Avoid direct trauma to the sciatic nerve.
Location (classical)
On the posterior aspect of the thigh, 6 cun inferior to BL-36, on the line connecting BL-36 and BL-40.
How to find it (practical)
In ventral or lateral decubitus, locate the point 6 cun below Cheng Fu (BL-36), at the center of the posterior margin of the muscle.
Anatomy
Between the biceps femoris and semitendinosus muscles. Deep to the point lies the sciatic nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 1.0–2.0 cun.
Etymology
Yin (殷), thickness or center; Men (门), gate. The point lies on the line between Cheng Fu (BL-36) and Wei Zhong (BL-40), where the muscle is thick.
