Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect of the foot, in the depression directly inferior to the lateral malleolus.
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the foot supported or in dorsal decubitus, locate the point 0.5 cun below the lateral malleolus, immediately below the apex.
Anatomy
Tendons of the peroneus longus and brevis muscles. Innervated by the sural nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Shen (申), to extend; Mai (脉), vessel. This point is important for treating leg spasms because it improves the flow of Xue (Blood) at the site, relaxing the muscle.
