Precautions
Very sensitive point.
Location (classical)
On the anterior midline of the neck, in the depression superior to the hyoid bone.
How to find it (practical)
Seated, with the neck in extension, locate the point in the depression above the upper border of the laryngeal prominence (Adam's apple).
Anatomy
Mylohyoid and geniohyoid muscles. Innervated by branches of the hypoglossal nerve and the glossopharyngeal nerve.
Needling
Oblique insertion directed superiorly toward the root of the tongue, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Lian (廉), prominence of the throat; Quan (泉), spring. The point is located in the depression on the upper border of the laryngeal prominence.
