Location (classical)
On the head, directly above the pupil, 0.5 cun within the anterior hairline, midway between GV-24 and ST-8.
How to find it (practical)
Seated, with the head at rest, locate the point 0.5 cun posterior to the anterior hairline, on the vertical line that passes through the pupil, or locate the point at the midpoint of the line connecting Shen Ting (GV-24) and Tou Wei (ST-8).
Anatomy
Frontalis muscle and epicranial aponeurosis. Innervated by the supraorbital nerve.
Needling
Transverse (subcutaneous) insertion, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Tou (头), head; Lin (临), from above to below; Qi (泣), tears. The point is located on the head and is indicated in the treatment of eye disorders.
