Deep insertion may reach the spinal canal.
Location (classical)
On the back, on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the ninth thoracic vertebra (T9). At the same level as BL-18 (Liver Shu).
How to find it (practical)
Seated upright or in prone decubitus, locate the point in the depression between the spinous processes of the ninth and tenth thoracic vertebrae.
Anatomy
Supraspinous and interspinous ligaments.
Needling
Oblique insertion directed superiorly, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Jin (筋), muscle and tendon; Suo (縮), contracture. Lateral to this point are the Gan Shu (BL-18) points. The point is useful in the treatment of muscular contractures.
