Location (classical)
On the radial border of the posterior aspect of the forearm, 5 cun distal to LU-5 (or 7 cun proximal to the wrist joint space / LU-9), on the line connecting LU-5 and LU-9.
How to find it (practical)
On the forearm with the palm facing up, locate the point 5 cun distal to Chi Ze (LU-5) (or 7 cun proximal to the wrist crease / Tai Yuan LU-9), on the line connecting Chi Ze (LU-5) to Tai Yuan (LU-9), on the medial border of the radius (WHO 2008, §LU-6).
Anatomy
Brachioradialis muscle, pronator teres muscle. Innervated by the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm and the superficial branch of the radial nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.5–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Kong (孔), opening, aperture; Zui (最), the supreme, the maximum. As the Xi-Cleft point of the Lung Meridian, it is the maximum aperture where the channel Qi gathers most deeply — the best point for releasing blocked flow of Lung Qi (Deadman, A Manual of Acupuncture, 2007, p. 74).
