Precautions
Avoid the cephalic vein.
Location (classical)
On the radial aspect of the forearm, directly above the styloid process of the radius, approximately 1.5 cun proximal to the wrist joint space, in a V-shaped cleft between the tendons of the brachioradialis and the abductor pollicis longus.
How to find it (practical)
1. Interlock the index finger and thumb of both hands; the point is located at the tip of the index finger resting over the styloid process of the radius of the opposite hand. 2. With the hand loosely closed and the thumb extended, locate Yang Xi (IG 5) in the anatomical snuffbox. Lie Que (P 7) lies 1.5 cun proximal to Yang Xi (IG 5), in the depression over the styloid process of the radius.
Anatomy
Skin, subcutaneous tissue, superficial branch of the radial nerve, brachioradialis muscle, between the tendons of the extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis and the abductor pollicis longus, radial artery, and supinator muscle.
Needling
Transverse (subcutaneous) insertion, directed proximally or distally, 0.5–1 cun.
Etymology
Lie (列): crack, divergence; Que (缺): depression. The collateral branch of the Hand Tai Yin Meridian emerges from this point, which sits in the depression just above the styloid process of the radius.
