Precautions
Avoid the brachial artery.
Location (classical)
On the anterior aspect of the arm, 2 cun below the anterior axillary fold, between the two heads of the biceps brachii muscle.
How to find it (practical)
With the arm extended and the palmar surface facing up, locate the point 2 cun below the anterior end of the axillary fold, in the biceps brachii muscle, or 7 cun above the cubital fold.
Anatomy
Biceps brachii muscle, coracobrachialis muscle. Innervated by the musculocutaneous nerve. The brachial artery and vein lie medially.
Needling
Oblique insertion distally or proximally along the channel line, 1 to 1.5 cun.
Etymology
Tian (天), heaven; Quan (泉), spring. The Qi of the meridian originates at Tian Chi (PC-1), flowing downward like a spring of water from the sky. FIGURE 8.7 – Tian Chi point
