Precautions
Avoid puncture of the brachial artery or direct trauma to the median nerve (which produces a radiating electric-shock sensation). Caution: the brachial artery and veins lie deep, immediately medial to this point.
Location (classical)
At the elbow, at the midpoint of the transverse cubital crease, on the ulnar border of the biceps brachii tendon, where the pulse of the brachial artery can be palpated.
How to find it (practical)
With the elbow slightly flexed and the palmar surface facing up, locate the point on the ulnar side of the biceps brachii tendon, in the middle of the cubital crease.
Anatomy
Bicipital aponeurosis, pronator teres muscle. The median nerve and brachial artery lie deep to this point. Innervated by the medial cutaneous nerve of the forearm.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun, or pricking to bleed.
