Precautions
Highly sensitive and painful point. Use finer needles, as puncture of this point can be quite painful.
Location (classical)
On the palm of the hand, in the depression between the second and third metacarpal bones. When the fist is clenched, the point lies where the tip of the middle finger touches the palm.
How to find it (practical)
With the hand closed and the fingers flexed, press the palmar crease with the tips of the middle and ring fingers. Locate the point between the second and third metacarpals, on the radial side of the third metacarpal.
Anatomy
Skin, subcutaneous tissue, palmar branch of the median nerve, branches of the palmar vein, palmar aponeurosis, superficial and deep palmar arterial arches, median nerve, adductor pollicis muscle, and lumbrical muscles.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Lao (勞), labor; Gong (宮), center. The hand is for labor and Lao refers to the hand. The point lies in the center of the palm of the hand.
