Location (classical)
On the anterior surface of the leg, 6 cun below ST-35, one finger-breadth lateral to the anterior crest of the tibia.
How to find it (practical)
Seated, with the knee flexed, locate the point 6 cun directly below Du Bi (ST-35), 1 cun lateral to the anterior crest of the tibia.
Anatomy
Tibialis anterior muscle. Extensor digitorum longus muscle. Innervated by the deep fibular nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion 1.0–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Shang (上), upper; Ju (巨), great; Xu (虚), void. Between the tibia and the fibula, a great space is formed.
