Precautions
Avoid direct trauma to the sciatic nerve.
Location (classical)
In the gluteal region, 3 cun lateral to the posterior midline, at the level of the fourth sacral foramen (at the level of BL-34).
How to find it (practical)
In ventral decubitus, locate the point at the level of the fourth posterior sacral foramen, 3 cun lateral to the posterior midline.
Anatomy
Gluteus maximus and piriformis muscles. The sciatic nerve passes deep to this point. Innervated by the inferior gluteal nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 1.5–2.0 cun.
Etymology
Zhi (秩), in line, sequence; Bian (边), lateral. The Dorsal Shu points of the Bladder Meridian, Foot Tai Yang, are arranged in a sequence, and this is the most inferior of all of them.
