Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect of the head, posterior to the ear, along the curve joining GB-9 and GB-12, approximately 1 cun superior to GB-12.
How to find it (practical)
Seated or in lateral decubitus, locate the point in the posterosuperior region of the mastoid bone, at the midpoint of the distance between Fu Bai (GB-10) and Wan Gu (GB-12).
Anatomy
Splenius capitis, upper border of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM). Innervated by the lesser occipital and great auricular nerves.
Needling
Transverse (subcutaneous) insertion, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Tou (头), head; Qiao (窍), orifice; Yin (阴), Yin of Yin-Yang. The point is indicated in the treatment of disorders of the ear, eye, head, and throat.
