In the depression posterior and inferior to the mastoid process.
How to find it (practical)
Seated or in lateral decubitus, locate the point in the posteroinferior depression of the mastoid process of the temporal bone.
Anatomy
Insertion of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) and splenius capitis muscles. Innervated by the lesser occipital nerve. Posterior auricular artery.
Needling
Oblique insertion directed inferiorly, 0.5–0.8 cun.
Etymology
Wan Gu (完骨), mastoid process. The point is located on the inferior margin of the mastoid process of the temporal bone.
