Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect of the leg, 7 cun superior to the prominence of the lateral malleolus, at the level of GB-35, but on the anterior border of the fibula.
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the feet supported or in lateral decubitus, locate the point 7 cun above the apex of the lateral malleolus, on the anterior border of the fibula, at the level of Yang Jiao (GB-35).
Anatomy
Fibularis longus and extensor digitorum longus muscles. Innervated by the superficial fibular nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 1.0–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Wai (外), lateral; Qiu (丘), mound. The point lies above the lateral malleolus, where the local muscle is prominent like a mound.
