Deep medially directed insertion carries a risk of pneumothorax.
Location (classical)
On the upper aspect of the shoulder, in the depression between the acromial extremity of the clavicle and the spine of the scapula (acromioclavicular joint space).
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the shoulder relaxed, locate the point at the posterior border of the acromioclavicular joint, in the depression between the clavicle and the spine of the scapula.
Anatomy
Skin, subcutaneous tissue, thoracoacromial vein, supraclavicular nerve (lateral branch), trapezius muscle, supraspinatus muscle, suprascapular nerve and artery, scapula.
Needling
Perpendicular or oblique insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Ju (巨), great; Gu (骨), bone. In ancient times, the clavicle was called Ju Gu. The point lies posterior to the clavicle.
