Location (classical)
On the posterolateral aspect of the forearm, 3 cun distal to LI-11, on the line connecting LI-5 and LI-11.
How to find it (practical)
With the elbow flexed, locate the point on the lateral border of the radius, 3 cun below Qu Chi (LI-11).
Anatomy
Extensor carpi radialis brevis muscle, supinator muscle. Innervated by the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm and the radial nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.5–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Shang (上), upper; Lian (廉), edge, ridge. The point lies 1 cun above Xia Lian (LI-8), on the dorsal aspect of the forearm, near the proximal end of the radius.
