2 cun distal to LI-11, on the line connecting LI-5 and LI-11, over the extensor carpi radialis longus muscle.
How to find it (practical)
Position the wrist laterally, with the elbow flexed. Locate the point on the line between Yang Xi (LI-5) and Qu Chi (LI-11), one-sixth from Qu Chi (LI-11) and five-sixths from Yang Xi (LI-5).
Anatomy
Skin, subcutaneous tissue, accessory cephalic vein and posterior branch of the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm, brachioradialis muscle, extensor carpi radialis longus and extensor carpi radialis brevis, superficial branch of the radial nerve and a branch of the radial artery, radius — deeper insertion reaches the supinator muscle.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.8–1.2 cun.
Etymology
Shou (手), hand; San (三), three; Li (里), considered as 1 cun in ancient times, equivalent to a distance of 1 kilometer. This point lies on the forearm, 3 cun below Qu Chi (LI-11).
