Precautions
Very painful point. Avoid needling the perionychium.
📍 Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect/tip of the great toe, approximately 0.1 cun proximal and lateral to the corner of the nail, or among the hairs.
🧭 How to find it (practical)
Seated with the feet supported, locate the point on the great toe, at the intersection of the lines passing through the lateral margin and the base of the nail.
🔬 Anatomy
Skin, subcutaneous tissue, branches of the dorsal digital nerves and veins of the great toe, dorsal digital branches of the superficial fibular nerve, dorsal digital artery, and distal phalanx of the great toe.
💉 Needling
Perpendicular insertion or oblique insertion in a proximal direction, 0.1–0.2 cun, or pricking to bleed.
📜 Etymology
Da (大), great; Dun (敦), thickness. Da Dun refers to the great toe. The point is located on the medial aspect of the great toe, where the region is thick.
