High risk of pneumothorax. Do not needle perpendicularly or deeply.
Location (classical)
On the back, 3 cun lateral to the inferior border of the spinous process of the first thoracic vertebra (T1).
How to find it (practical)
Seated or in the prone position, locate the point at the intersection of the vertical line of the vertebral margin of the scapula with the horizontal line of Tao Dao (GV-13).
Anatomy
Trapezius, levator scapulae, and rhomboid minor muscles. Innervated by the dorsal scapular nerve and accessory nerve. Transverse cervical artery.
Needling
Oblique insertion directed medially, 0.5–0.8 cun.
Etymology
Jian (肩), shoulder; Wai (外), lateral aspect; Shu (俞), point. The point lies near the shoulder, lateral to the point Jian Zhong Shu (SI-15).
