Location (classical)
6 cun proximal to the most prominent point of the medial malleolus, on the posterior border of the medial crest of the tibia (3 cun above SP-6).
How to find it (practical)
Seated or supine, locate the point 3 cun directly above San Yin Jiao (SP-6), on the posterior margin of the tibia.
Anatomy
Soleus and flexor digitorum longus muscles. Innervated by the saphenous nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 1.0–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Lou (漏), leak; Gu (谷), valley. The point lies in the depression posterior to the medial border of the tibia, like a valley. It has a diuretic function.
