Precautions
High Risk of Pneumothorax. Deep insertion can puncture the apex of the lung. Also avoid the subclavian vessels.
Location (classical)
In the supraclavicular fossa, superior to the midpoint of the clavicle, 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline.
How to find it (practical)
Seated, with the head erect, locate the point in the middle of the supraclavicular fossa, on the superior aspect of the lateral depression of the clavicular insertion of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
Anatomy
Platysma. Supraclavicular nerve, brachial plexus, subclavian artery and vein.
Needling
Perpendicular or oblique insertion 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Que (缺), defective; Pen (盆), basin. Que Pen refers to the supraclavicular fossa, where the point is located.
