Location (classical)
On the anterior surface of the leg, 8 cun below ST-35, one finger-breadth lateral to the anterior crest of the tibia (midpoint between ST-35 and ST-41).
How to find it (practical)
Seated, with the knee flexed, locate the point 5 cun below Zu San Li (ST-36), at the midpoint of the line connecting Wai Xi Yan (EX-LE-5) and the tip of the lateral malleolus.
Anatomy
Tibialis anterior muscle, extensor digitorum longus muscle. Innervated by the deep fibular nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion 1.0–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Tiao (条), strip; Kou (口), mouth. The point lies in the depression between the fibula and the tibia, like the opening of a mouth.
