Location (classical)
On the anterior surface of the leg, 9 cun below ST-35, one finger-breadth lateral to the anterior crest of the tibia.
How to find it (practical)
Seated, with the knee flexed, locate the point 6 cun directly below Zu San Li (ST-36).
Anatomy
Tibialis anterior muscle, extensor digitorum longus muscle. Innervated by the deep fibular nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion 1.0–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Xia (下), lower; Ju (巨), great; Xu (虚), void. A large space is formed between the tibia and the fibula. The point lies at the lower part of this space.
