Traditionally contraindicated for moxibustion.
Location (classical)
0.5 cun within the anterior hairline, at the frontal angle, 4.5 cun lateral to the anterior midline (GV-24).
How to find it (practical)
Seated, first locate Tou Lin Qi (GB-15), 0.5 cun posterior to the anterior hairline, on the vertical line through the pupil. Locate Tou Wei (ST-8) lateral to Tou Lin Qi (GB-15), at the same distance from Tou Lin Qi (GB-15) as that point lies from Shen Ting (GV-24).
Anatomy
Border of the temporalis muscle. Innervated by the auriculotemporal nerve and branches of the facial nerve.
Needling
Transverse (subcutaneous) insertion 0.5–1.0 cun along the scalp.
Etymology
Tou (頭), head; Wei (維), corner or angle. The point lies at the lateral angle of the frontal hairline.
