Location (classical)
On the dorsal aspect of the forearm, 2 cun proximal to the dorsal carpal crease (TE-4), between the radius and the ulna.
How to find it (practical)
With the arm extended and pronated, locate the point 2 cun immediately above the midpoint of the dorsal wrist crease, between the ulna and the radius, opposite Nei Guan (PC-6).
Anatomy
Motor point of the extensor pollicis longus muscle. Between the ulna and the radius. The dorsal antebrachial cutaneous nerve and the posterior interosseous nerve. The posterior interosseous artery and vein.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun (often needled through to PC-6 Neiguan).
Etymology
Wai (外), lateral; Guan (关), strategy. The point lies at a vital location on the lateral aspect of the humerus.
