Location (classical)
On the dorsal aspect of the wrist. In the depression of the transverse carpal crease, between the third and fourth metacarpals.
How to find it (practical)
With the palmar surface facing down, locate the point in the depression at the intersection between the proximal portion of the 3rd and 4th metacarpal bones and the dorsal carpal crease, or at the ulnocarpal joint, between the tendons of the extensor digitorum communis and the extensor proprius of the 5th finger.
Anatomy
Extensor retinaculum, tendon of the extensor digiti minimi muscle. Innervated by the dorsal branch of the ulnar nerve and the posterior interosseous nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Yang (阳), Yang of Yin Yang; Chi (池), pool. The point lies in the depression posterior to the wrist: the Qi of the Meridian flows like water in a pool.
