Deep insertion may penetrate the peritoneal cavity.
Location (classical)
In the upper abdomen, on the anterior midline, 3 cun superior to the umbilicus.
How to find it (practical)
In supine decubitus, locate the point 1 cun above Xia Wan (CV-10), or 3 cun above the center of the umbilicus.
Anatomy
Linea alba. Innervated by the eighth intercostal nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.5–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Jian (建), harmony; Li (里), inner. The point is located in the epigastric region and assists in the regulation of dysfunctions of the Wei (Stomach) and the Pi (Spleen).
