Precautions
Empty the bladder before needling. Contraindicated in pregnancy.
Location (classical)
In the lower abdomen, on the anterior midline, 3 cun inferior to the umbilicus.
How to find it (practical)
In supine decubitus, locate the point 1 cun above Zhong Ji (CV-3), or 3 cun below the center of the umbilicus.
Anatomy
Linea alba. Innervated by the twelfth intercostal nerve (subcostal nerve).
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Guan (關), important strategic pass; Yuan (元), primordial Qi. Strategic point of storage of the primordial Qi of the body.
