Precautions
Deep insertion may penetrate the peritoneal cavity. Classically contraindicated in women, as it was believed to cause infertility.
Location (classical)
In the lower abdomen, on the anterior midline, 2 cun inferior to the umbilicus.
Anatomy
Linea alba. Innervated by the eleventh intercostal nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Shi (石), stone; Men (門), gate. Stone signifies "obstruction." In ancient times, it was erroneously believed that needling this point would cause infertility.
