The Brazilian Medical College of Acupuncture (CMBA/AMB) will hold, on November 27 and 28, 2026, at the Sheraton Hotel in Santos (SP), the joint edition of the XXX International Acupuncture Congress of CMBA and the VIII Pain Congress of CMBA. The meeting brings together medical acupuncturists from across the country for two days of scientific immersion, with emphasis on neurophysiology of pain, multidisciplinary management, and updates on the evidence in medical acupuncture.
XXX International Acupuncture Congress of CMBA
The thirtieth edition of the International Acupuncture Congress of CMBA marks an important milestone for the specialty in Brazil: three decades of scientific output, exchange with international schools, and consolidation of medical acupuncture as an evidence-based clinical practice. The choice of Santos — a historic city on the São Paulo coast — adds a symbolic dimension to the program, which will be presided over by Dr. Ricardo Morad Basseto.
"On November 27 and 28, 2026, the XXX International Acupuncture Congress of CMBA will take place in Santos. I want to invite you to save this date to participate in this great event of Brazilian medical acupuncture. I count on you in the pleasant and historic city of Santos, my hometown."
VIII Pain Congress of CMBA
In parallel, the VIII Pain Congress of CMBA will dedicate its program to the integration of acupuncture in the management of chronic pain syndromes — one of the fields with the largest body of evidence accumulated in the last decade. Low back pain, headache, fibromyalgia, and cancer pain figure among the topics with robust systematic reviews that support the inclusion of medical acupuncture in multidisciplinary protocols. The presidency of the meeting is held by Dr. Lucília de Brito Tavares.
"We invite all medical acupuncturists to participate in the VIII Pain Congress of CMBA. It will be an unmissable meeting, full of knowledge exchange and scientific updating. We will discuss advances, explore new approaches, and further strengthen the role of acupuncture in pain management."
The Role of CMBA in Brazilian Medical Acupuncture
Affiliated with the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB) and the Brazilian Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), the Brazilian Medical College of Acupuncture is the official entity that represents the medical specialty in the country since the recognition of acupuncture by the CFM in 1995. The annual CMBA congresses are the main forum for continuing medical education in medical acupuncture in Brazil — a space where guidelines are updated, national research is presented, and complex clinical cases are discussed with colleagues from all over the country.
Registration and Program
Registration is open at the official congress portal, with promotional rates for early registration. The complete program, with a list of national and international speakers, will be published on CMBA channels throughout the year. CMBA members, medical residents, and professionals affiliated with partner societies have special conditions.
For the medical community that practices acupuncture, events such as the CMBA Congress fulfill a dual role: they consolidate the scientific base that sustains the specialty and strengthen the network of professionals who practice it ethically, in a regulated manner, and based on evidence. The reunion in Santos, in November, promises to be a milestone for Brazilian medical acupuncture in its thirtieth international edition.
