Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect of the leg, 3 cun superior to the prominence of the lateral malleolus, between the posterior border of the fibula and the tendons of the fibularis longus and brevis muscles.
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the feet supported or in lateral decubitus, locate the point 3 cun above the lateral malleolus, on the anterior border of the fibula.
Anatomy
Fibularis brevis muscle. Innervated by the superficial fibular nerve and the sural nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 1.0–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Xuan (悬), suspended; Zhong (钟), bell. The point lies above the lateral malleolus, where children long ago used to hang a bell. This point is also called Jue Gu, which means "severed bone."
