Precautions
Avoid the dorsalis pedis artery during deep insertion.
Location (classical)
Anterior and inferior to the lateral malleolus; at the intersection of the line drawn along the anterior and inferior borders of the lateral malleolus.
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the feet supported or in lateral decubitus, locate the point in the anterior and inferior region to the lateral malleolus, on the lateral aspect of the tendon of the extensor digitorum longus muscle, in the depression of the talocalcaneal joint.
Locate the point at the intersection of the lines passing along the anterior border and inferior border of the lateral malleolus.
Anatomy
Extensor digitorum brevis muscle. Anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL). Innervated by the superficial fibular nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion directed toward the medial malleolus, 0.5–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Qiu (丘), mound; Xu (丘墟), great mound. Here it refers to the malleolus.
