Location (classical)
3 cun proximal to LI-5 (in the center of the anatomical snuffbox), on the line connecting LI-5 and LI-11, between the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis muscles, at the level of the musculotendinous junction.
How to find it (practical)
With the elbow slightly flexed, locate the point 3 cun above Yang Xi (LI-5), on the lateral border of the radius.
Anatomy
Extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis muscles, abductor pollicis longus muscle. Innervated by the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm and the superficial branch of the radial nerve.
Needling
Transverse-oblique or perpendicular insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Pian (偏), divergence; Li (歴), passage. A collateral of the Large Intestine Meridian separates from the Lung Meridian at this point.
