Location (classical)
At the medial end of the popliteal crease, between the tendons of the semitendinosus and semimembranosus. Locate with the knee flexed.
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the knee flexed, locate the point at the medial end of the transverse popliteal line, between the tendons of the semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles. (Fig. 10.18)
Anatomy
Between the tendons of the semitendinosus and semimembranosus. Innervated by the medial femoral cutaneous nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.8–1.2 cun.
Etymology
Yin (阴), medial side; Gu (谷), valley. The interior is Yin. The point lies medial to the knee joint. The local depression resembles a valley.
