Avoid the femoral artery. Caution: femoral artery and vein.
Location (classical)
On the medial aspect of the thigh, 6 cun proximal to SP-10, on a line connecting SP-10 to SP-12 (on the lateral border of the sartorius muscle).
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the knees flexed and both legs slightly abducted, locate the point on the medial aspect of the sartorius muscle, 6 cun above Xue Hai (SP-10).
Anatomy
Sartorius muscle. The femoral artery and vein lie deep and slightly lateral. Innervated by the femoral nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Ji (箕), winnower (dustpan); Men (门), gate. Seated with the knees apart, like a winnower, the point lies on the medial aspect of the thigh and receives this name precisely because of the position the patient assumes for its localization.
