Precautions
Strictly avoid the femoral artery and vein. Caution: medially directed insertion can puncture the femoral artery; laterally directed insertion can injure the femoral nerve.
Location (classical)
In the inguinal region, 3.5 cun lateral to the anterior midline, at the level of the upper border of the pubic symphysis (CV-2), lateral to the femoral artery.
Anatomy
Aponeurosis of the external oblique muscle. Innervated by the femoral nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Chong (冲), pulse; Men (门), gate. At this point the pulsation of the femoral artery can be palpated. Here, the Qi of the Spleen-Pancreas Meridian, Tai Yin of the Foot, reaches the abdomen, as if passing through a gate.
